I’ve been down on myself the last few weeks. I thought being on vacation would snap me out of it but the whole time I was gone I kept thinking of the time lost that I would have when I returned back to work.  The exciting news that I got from my doctor while I was away seemed to have helped but now that I have my doubts about the results I just can’t help but feel down again.

The heat has a lot to do with it I feel because I wanted to do something with my kids today being that they were home and not working but everytime I went outside I was just drained from the heat and humidity.  Plus, with all this humidity, it makes it difficult for me to breath.  The next two days the rain chances has increased to 70% so maybe after the storms roll in here at least it will cool things off a bit.

This coming Thursday, June 29th, I will have been married for 25 years.  I have already made reservations for Saturday at a place called Perry’s Steakhouse.  It’s a bit pricey but my wife is worth it.  Putting up with me and all my ailments; she deserves more than a pricey steak and a night on the town.  She’s going to flip when she sees the prices on the menu though. But maybe the flowers that I have ordered that will be sitting on the table when we arrive will take away some of the shock.  We don’t usually go out on the town like this.  It’s usually places like Logan’s steakhouse where you pay $12 to $15 for a steak or go to Cracker Barrel.  Those places are more to our taste.  If I get out of Perry’s for less than $200 I’ll be lucky.

July 4th is coming up in a week and I have that day off which means a three day weekend.  If I can just make it through this week.  So you see, I have a couple of things to look forward too.  With this in mind maybe I can get out of this slump that I’m in and I can have a brighter outlook.  It’s going to take me some time for me to build up more vacation time but at least my doctor’s appointments are down to a minimum right now.  That’s another thing that has me upset is the fact that right now if I have a family emergency I can’t do anything about it.  I can’t take off right now if I had too.  Tomorrow, if I’m not wrong, I should have 10 hours built up.  That’s not much but it’s a start.

I hope everyone has a great week ahead.

My truck had to be towed to the shop yesterday because my shift cable had broke.  I decided to take the day off even though I really couldn’t afford to take off just to have a break from my bosses.  Work has become a source of stress that I really need to get a handle on.  With that said I decided to take the day off and go visit my daughters while they were at band camp.  I figured that if they could march in the 95 degree heat I could at the very least go and sit and watch them for an hour or so.

My truck is finally fixed so I guess I’ll be heading off to work tomorrow. It’s just a day until the weekend.  No plans thus far for the weekend except to relax and spend some time with the family.

As much as I hate the winter months I will never complain about the summer.  Although the last few days just have been really hot.  Yesterday I rode my bicycle and the heat index was around 110 degrees.  It really wasn’t that bad as long as I didn’t stop for too long.  Today the heat was just as bad.  Supposedly there will be some relief toward the end of the week.

Didn’t ride this evening like I wanted too but I did stick with my diet.

365 Day Photo Challenge, Alabama, Car Show, Fire Engines, Fire Trucks, HDR, Heat, Photography, Vacation, Vintage, Volunteer Fire Department

I had all these plans lined up for today in preparation for our trip next week.  I have a habit of procrastinating and I’m always in a rush getting ready so I was planning on getting a lot of things done today.  It didn’t happen.

I got an invite from my uncle to go to a car show today and see some of the fire trucks that that have on display.  I couldn’t resist.  The photo above is a 1918 fire truck that has been fully restored.  It got most of the attention today.

This engine was with volunteer fire dept. where I grew up.  I was involved with the department mainly because my dad volunteered.  I was able to ride in this truck to several house and brush fires.

After taking pictures of all the trucks, I took my wife out for lunch and came straight home and got out of the heat.  It was in the high 90’s today with the humidity was around 85%.  It was not comfortable outside at all.  Not even in the shade.  Tomorrow morning I will be outside cleaning my truck out and giving it a good cleaning.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend.

365 Day Photo Challenge, Alabama, Heat, Heat Index, Humidity, Model, Photography, Summer, Sweat

As much as I hate cold temperatures you will never hear me complain about the heat.  It has been predicted that here in the deep south that we would encounter a milder summer than in years past.  Today’s high was 94 degrees with a heat index of 104 degrees and summer hasn’t officially arrived yet.  I think the forecasters may be wrong.

The humidity here is unbearable at times.  For those with breathing problems find it hard to breath and those with out breathing problems are not far behind them.  You walk outside and it literally takes your breath away the air feels so thick.  Your everyday tasks become labored and you break out in a sweat.  Just by walking across the parking lot you would be in need of a change of clothes.

Yesterday evening I had the opportunity to work with this beautiful mother of two at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens and it was not enjoyable at all.  We got several good images but we both had to work for it.  I had to stop several times and wipe the sweat off my brow to keep my camera dry.  My glassed started steaming up which made it difficult to know when the images was in focus in the view screen.
