I’ve been sick since Sunday and so far I’ve missed two days of work.  I’ll be taking off again tomorrow to go back to the doctor to see if I can get another shot to hopefully finally get rid of this mess.  I’ve been sick more since I’ve been diagnosed with CML than in the past several years combined.  The doctor did say that my immune system will be low but I wasn’t really prepared for all the time off that I’ve had to take so far.

I spent the day at home sick today.  Not feeling well at all.  In fact, this is the first time I’ve been online since last night.  I wasn’t alone, one of my 17 year old daughters was home with the same crud.  I didn’t sleep much last night because of all the coughing I was doing. Looks like another day at home for me is in the future for tomorrow.

Regrettably, I went to work today. I should’ve stayed at home and rested.  Tomorrow may be the day I do stay home and see if I can’t get over this mess. I really can’t afford to take off from work but if I don’t feel any better than I do now my butt is not getting out of bed.

Pictured above is the infamous Cahaba Lilies.  They only grow in and around the Cahaba River here in Alabama.  Many photographers flock to this river to take pictures of these lilies.

They have cancelled the winter storm watch for central Alabama.  I am relieved.  The company I work for does not pay me enough to purchase another vehicle if I wreck mine trying to get to work.  I would have taken off if there was ice on the roadways.  That within itself would have been bad because I really don’t have the time to take off.  But anyway, it’s all mute now.

I spent the better part of this afternoon in a doc in a box.  I have chest congestion and a sore throat.  They gave me a shot in the hip and gave me some antibiotics and cough syrup.  I got home and took me a three hour nap.  I feel better now but I’m not going to stay up much longer.

Went to Tuscaloosa tonight to the Gymnastics meet and also spent a few minutes with my son who played in the pep band.  Please forgive the picture as I was way up in the stands with my 70-300mm zoom lense.  Our team one which is always a good thing.

Today marks the one year anniversary since my diagnosis of CML.  I’ve got an appointment to see my oncologist in just a little over a month.  I’m still waiting on the test results that state there are no traces of the cancer in my blood.  That day will come soon enough I hope.

Just one more day until Friday.  I get to go see my son tomorrow night.  He’ll be playing in the pep band during the gymnastic meet.  So not only will we get tosee him we’ll be able to hear him play as well.

The weather people are still forecasting snow for Monday night into Tuesday and again Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.  I really hope they’re making a big deal out of nothing.  I can’t afford to be off from work so I’ll at least try to make it in if it does snow.

The S word is in the forecast again and I’m not happy about it.  I’m so over winter and I’m ready for spring time.  This weekend was absolutely beautiful.  With highs in the lower 60’s the parks were full of people enjoying the sunshine.  Today was in the high 50’s but tomorrow it will start getting cold again and then by Sunday morning it will be back in the teens. To beat all, next Tuesday they have snow back in the forecast.  Right now it’s too far away for them to make an accurate account as to how much snow we get.  As it stands now the city will shut down for just a dusting.

Time to introduce another one of my hobbies.  I love cooking in Dutch Ovens.  I volunteer for the Boy Scouts and I teach these boys the art of cooking in these ovens.  It’s a lost art and some people don’t even know how to cook in them.  I was taught by one of the best and his tradition lives on through me.  Pictured here are two main dishes, Easy Cheesy Meat and Potatoes (Top Left), Cowboy Stew (Bottom Center) and Bread (Top Right)  I’ve done a few catering jobs which fed as many as 50 people.  At last count I own 16 Dutch ovens and about a dozen different sizes of skillets.

You guys ready to eat yet?

365 Photo Challenge, Alabama, Endurance, Horse, Photo, Ride

I was informed today that an event that I have volunteered for the last eight years has been cancelled until further notice.  The event was a horse endurance ride.  The horse and rider rode anywhere between 25 and 100 miles in a day.  Our group was set up at different stations and monitored the riders as they rode through the check points.

Back a couple of years ago, you may remember when the government shut down and all the national parks closed.  The park where most of the riders camped at and had showers made available to them at first stated that even though the parks were shut down they would remain open for the event.  Well, the national guard got wind of this and forced everyone out of the campgrounds and this made the ride coordinators upset that the campground management wouldn’t stand their ground.  I can see both points of view but the campground management had no choice but to close the campground otherwise people would get arrested.  But still, the ride management got mad and said that would not be back, but they did.  The following year.  Before the end of the event last year an announcement was made that this may be the last year for this ride and that a decision would be made within a month or so.  I got word yesterday that the ride was not included in this years calendar.

It’s too bad really because I really enjoyed working this event.  The work wasn’t hard and I got to meet a lot of interesting people.  It’s a whole new world these people live in with their fancy horses and their expensive trailers that they lived in during these events.

The above picture was taken a couple of years ago of a young lady and her horse.  She had just finished up with her run and was waiting on the vet to have her horse checked out.  That’s another thing I was so impressed with, they took care of these animals better than they did of themselves.  Last year they had to put one of these majestic horses down.  The rider was told multiple times to slow the animal down but she thought her horse could handle the strain. They just couldn’t get the horse’s heart rate down to a manageable rate.  They rushed the horse to the nearest animal hospital over six hours away where the horse finally had to be put down.
