With all this snow talk up north I decided I’d post a picture of the snow we got last year.  In fact it was a year ago this week when we got snowed in.  I think we had about an inch of ice with about four inches of snow.  Shut the city down for about 48 hours.  This was nothing compared to the winter storm of ’93 when we had 18 inches of snow. We were snowed in for over a week.  We lost power for five days and had to heat and cook our food via a fireplace.  In fact, we even had to sleep in the den next to the fireplace because we had a waterbed at the time.  No power means a very cold waterbed.  We emptied our refrigerator and put all of our perishables outside on the deck.  We simply dug a hole in the snow, put everything in it and covered it up.  Didn’t lose a thing.

I like snow but I like it for one day and the next it’s gone.  It makes for some pretty pictures, don’t you think?

What more could a person ask for?  Meet Taffy Marie from London England no less.  It was strange to find her here in Alabama. She was a lot of fun to work with and I loved hearing her talk.  Her mom and dad both were in the military in England and somehow ended up here in the states.  Once in the states her family moved all the time.  Taffy no longer lives in Alabama and now resides in Florida somewhere near the coast.

Enjoy the pictures and as always, comments welcome.

Have a safe week everyone.

I learned to drive a straight shift on this truck.  She holds a lot of memories for me.  My brother and I used her for our grass cutting business while we were in high school.  We hauled tons of firewood out of the deepest woods that my dad could find.

Everytime I look at her I see the big dent on the front fender.  I laugh now every time I think about what happen.  My brother and I were learning how to drive and it was my turn to drive around the yard.  I got behind the wheel and was arguing with my brother who was outside the truck as I was backing up.  I ran into a power poll that sat dead center of our side yard.  I was so mad and upset.  Dad wasn’t too happy either.

She started leaking oil back before I graduated high school.  A friend of mine decided that we could rebuild her.  I needed the experience anyway so we rebuilt the engine.  We spent about two months working evenings and weekends.  Got her cranked and damn if she didn’t leak worse after we fixed her than before.  Dad took it to a shop and they fixed it right.

It’s been sitting up for several years now.  My brother in law decided he would sand it down and repaint her.  He spent several weekends sanding but never got around to the painting.  That was over ten years ago.  Dad has moved it around the yard via tractor but it hasn’t been cranked in over ten years. She sits rusting away.

Good morning everyone!!

This picture was taken at a mall in Chicago.  I went on a trip to Chicago a few years ago with the band while my son was in high school.  Whenever I see this picture I’m reminded that our lives are nothing but a glass house.  No matter how we try to hide from the world people can still see us.  My wife is amazed that whenever we go places, near or far, I always meet up with someone that I know.  Even on my trip to Chicago I met up with someone I knew a few years back.  I always joke around that I always have to be seen doing things that I should be doing otherwise someone I know will see me.

I’ve been working on pictures all day today and ran across Miss Laura.  She needed a pick me up after going through some crap in her life so I cut her a good deal on some pictures.  She had never “modeled” before so all this was new to her.  We both had a good time working together.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Saturday.  I Had a photo shoot cancel on me so I’m spending the day going over past photo’s and trying to tweak them for publication.  This is Dana Micael and she’s from Tuscaloosa a college town about forty-five minutes from here. I met here a couple of years ago and was fortunate enough to work with her a couple of hours.

The weather here has finally cleared and the son is shining but wind the temps are a little chilly.  I’m planning on doing some timelapse photography of the sunset if the clouds permit.

Get out and enjoy this weekend if you can.

A little disappointed tonight as I have just found out the young lady I was to photography tomorrow at Railroad park has to work and will not be able to make it.  The only days she has available for a shoot are the days I’m either booked or have to work.  This is a common problem with trying to work out a photo shoot.  I wished I made enough money at it so I could quit my full time job and be a photographer full time.  I think that we all know that won’t happen at least until I can retire in three years.

Another dreary, wet day in the deep south.  With the temps hovering in the low to mid forties and low thick clouds that hung around most of the day made this boy wish for spring even more today.  Rain is falling right now and is expected to stick around until early Saturday morning with a chance of light snow before ending.

I have a photo shoot scheduled for Saturday afternoon with a young single mom.  Nothing too fancy just some catalogue work.  I haven’t photographed anyone in quite some time.  Lately all I’ve been able to shoot are some landmarks and my pets.  I hope she isn’t afraid of some cool weather and we get some good shots.

The above photo is from the Botanical Gardens located here in the Birmingham area.  It’s free to enter and has sever genre of flowers and trees to sit and ponder things through.  I really enjoy going there when I have the time to spend.  The last time I was there I nearly had a hawk on top of me.  She was after a squirrel and I got in her way.

Tornado Damage 2011 060_tonemapped

This picture is still hard to look at.  April 27th, 2011 an F-4 Tornado ripped through our little community.  We lost 12 people and over 600 homes that evening.  We were one of the lucky ones.  We had some tree damage and debris in our yard but nothing compared to what happened just down the road.

The young man in the picture was one of my scouts.  His dad is there with him trying to dig out his bedroom.  They found the water bed intact and still full of water while everything else was destroyed.  What your seeing in the picture was in fact two houses.  The storm picked up the neighbors house and flipped it on top of the other.

It’s a miracle more people were not killed in this storm.  One thing that I feel was a huge contributor is that the high school band and 86 of it’s members were on their way to Orlando for a band trip.  If those kids had been home I feel the fatality would have been much higher.
