Today is the first day of thirty days of a treadmill exercise program.  This evening I just did a little over thirty minutes and 1.56 miles.  I know it’s not much but each day I will try to increase both the time and the milage.  Two years ago I had gotten up to an hour and a half and up to a little over five miles before I got burnt out and quit.  Maybe I can work up to that again before the month is over with.

The above picture is of the chicken pot pie that I made yesterday. It went over very well and was loved by everyone that had some.  I’ll post some pictures tomorrow of some of the mayhem that went on during the trick or treating.  It was crazy.

Other than doing the treadmill this evening I haven’t done much of anything but edit a few pictures and watch some football with my son before he had to leave for college. Tomorrow I continue with my hellish job at least for another 34 more months.  I can only hope and pray that it gets better.

365 Day Photo Challenge, Cookout, Day of Rest, Dutch Oven, Lodge, Lodge Cookware, Pressure Washer, Sunday, Tannehill, Yard Work

After an exhausting day yesterday cooking I had already decided that I would sleep in a bit this morning, and I did.  I woke up with every intention to unload my ovens so that they wouldn’t be riding around in the back of my truck all week.  I do have another cookout this Saturday and there is no way I would allow those ovens to ride in the back of my truck and risk them getting damaged.  After lunch I did eventually get off my rear end and unload the ovens from the truck.

I must have gotten a spark of energy because after I unloaded the truck I retrieved my pressure washer and cleaned not only my side walk but my driveway as well.  That took several tanks of gas and several hours to do.  I’m not exactly sure what got into me.  I was close to being too dark to see anything but I did manage to finish.

I did manage to get some rest today but I also got some stuff done that needed to get done.  My wife want’s to have people over this Saturday to celebrate my daughter’s birthday so I’ve got to get some yard work done this week.  It’s going to be tight but I think I can swing it.

365 Day Photo Challenge, Alabama, Tannehill, Work

It never fails when I have plans, that gremlin shows it’s ugly head and causes trouble and it’s always at 4pm.  My work day begins at 7:30 am and ends at 4:15 pm.  I stay busy throughout the day doing preventive maintenance, too hot/too cold calls, some plumbing issues and general everyday maintenance issues.  In a company that houses some 3,000 employees, most everyone knows the hours that we work but they always wait until 4 pm to call and tell us that they have an emergency that needs to be taken care of right away.

A few months ago I got the call at 4pm which stated that the person had water dripping from the ceiling.  I get to the call and of course there’s water dripping from the ceiling.  I asked the guy who made the call how long had it been leaking. I almost lost it when he told me that it had been leaking since before 10 am that morning.  Why did you wait until 4pm to make the call to maintenance and he told me that he knew that we left at 4pm and he decided that he’d better call before we left.

Most of the 4pm calls are not calls that only last a few minutes and your done.  Oh no, these calls can last from 3 hours to 10 hours to several days.  The one I got today involved water under the floor in our computer room.  Never a good thing to have water underneath a raised floor.  Once we found out where the water was coming from it took us several hours just to vacuum all the water up.  Needless to say that I did not get to ride any today.

365 Day Photo Challenge, Alabama, Bike, Birmingham, Cycling, Grismill, Loose Spoke, Photography, Railroad Park, Tannehill, Warped Wheel

I took my twin daughters to a band banquet tonight. The event was held at the McWane Center in downtown Birmingham.  It seems that they have a banquet hall that was affordable for the students.  The girls thought is was unnecessary for us to attend being that they only recognize the seniors but they did need transportation to and from the event.  What a perfect time for me to get some good shots of downtown Birmingham at night.

My first stop after dropping the girls off was the Alabama Theater.  That place was packed.  It looked like by the amount of little girls entering the theater in TuTu’s that there was a dance recital going on.  To many people going in and out of the place to get a good HDR image plus there not a parking space in site.

The next stop was the new Railroad Park.  Same thing.  No parking and they had some event going on there as well.  Too much traffic to have to deal with. The next stop was across town to a Methodist church that everyone seems to like to take pictures of.  A wedding was about to take place and the bride and groom was having their picture taken out front.  Strike three.

Near Railroad Park is a set of tunnels that someone had put lights in that change color.  It’s a popular place for photographers to take pictures.  I was bound and determined to take some shots there no matter what it took.  I got there and I found a parking place.  My thought was to get in a position to get the tunnel in frame as well as getting a trail of brake lights going into the tunnel.   I got out of the truck, with camera in one hand and the tripod in the other I started for the tunnel.  I got to a position to where I thought I could get some decent shots when my phone goes off.  It’s one of my daughters.  They’re standing outside waiting on me to come and pick them up.  Needless to say that I didn’t get a shot off tonight. The good news is that I was able to spend time with my daughters even if it was just for a few minutes.

I was able to get my bike to the shop.  I inspected it before loading it up on the bike rack and noticed that one of the spokes was loose.  I don’t own the tools to tighten the spokes nor did I have the time to try and true the wheel myself so I took it to the shop.  I’ll pick it up on Monday.

I was stood up.  It’s just as well.  I didn’t really feel like doing a shoot today anyway.  I haven’t heard from her nor will I call or email her to find out why.  I’ll just leave it alone.  I went straight to the doctor to be diagnosed with Bronchitis.  I’m running a fever of 101 and I don’t feel very well.  I”ll have to take another day off but maybe I”ll feel better by Tuesday.

Good night all.

I had a shoot scheduled for today but I never heard from her.  It upsets me that some people will talk and talk to you and then just vanish with no contact whatsoever.  Won’t respond to emails, voicemail or even text messages.  Go Figure!  So what did I did I do today?  I spent the afternoon with one of my daughters at Tannehill Historical Park.

I won’t post pictures of my daughter due to her privacy but this is a picture of the church that is there.  I adore this place.  In fact, I love to go to this park and spend the day taking pictures.  As you can see, if you click the link, that this place has a lot to offer.

My daughter wants to be a model.  I’m not going to deny her the opportunity but I’d rather her be something else.  She’s still got a few more years before she has to decide and I will support her in whatever choice she decides to make.

I hope everyone has a peaceful Sunday.

365 Photo Challenge, Alabama, Camera, Friday, Photo, Tannehill, Weekend

Thank God tomorrow’s Friday.  This is the first week since Christmas that I’ve worked all week without taking off for some kind of doctors appointment.  It’s tough trying to build my vacation time when I’m constantly having to take off for either an eye appointment or a oncologist appointment.  In fact, I’m having to take a couple of hours next Tuesday to go back to the eye doctor.

Hopefully I’ll be spending some time with the family and maybe even some time behind the lense of my camera this weekend.  It’s been a while for both.  Sixty-two is the predicted high for Saturday and I might even get in a ride on my bicycle.u

The above picture was taken at the grist mill at Tannehill Historical Park in McCalla Alabama.  I love to go there and take pictures.  It has everything a photographer would want for a picturesque location.

“Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park has more than 1,500 acres in three counties set aside for hiking, camping and outdoor recreation. A miniature railroad chugs through the pines. From spring through fall, the blacksmith, miller and craftsmen demonstrate their trades. Craft shops occupy restored pioneer cabins and artisans chat with visitors from their front porches. Steeped in history, Tannehill feels timeless. The cotton gin, pioneer farm and working gristmill preserve a long-gone way of life. Hiking trails retrace historic roadways. Artifacts of Alabama’s 19th century iron industry displayed in the Iron and Steel Museum put in perspective the massive stone furnaces, Tannehill’s awe-inspiring centerpiece.

You ever have one of those days where nothing seemed like nothing went right and that you should have stayed in bed? Today was one of those days for me.  It started late last night when I got the email saying that my shoot was postponed.  I was not happy and I went to bed mad and I couldn’t sleep.  It was not until 4 am until I got my head cleared enough to where I could go to sleep.  What burnt me up so bad was that we have talked for several weeks trying to settle on a date and then when we do she up’s and cancels on me.  Anyway, if she want’s to get together again, she’s going to have to make the first step. Not me.

Today, once I finally got out of bed, I spent the day doing honey do’s.  I had to go to the paint store and get paint then spent the remainder of the afternoon painting our garage doors.  It needed done and I’m glad I did it because we’re supposed to get several inches of rain tomorrow.

Picture was taken several years ago at Tannehill Historical Park.  Civil War reenactment.  It was fun and it was loud especially when those cannons went off.  People dressed in period clothing, camping in period tents and cooking in period cookware.  It’s amazing how these people lived in those days.  We’ve come a long way.

I’ve been working on pictures all day today and ran across Miss Laura.  She needed a pick me up after going through some crap in her life so I cut her a good deal on some pictures.  She had never “modeled” before so all this was new to her.  We both had a good time working together.
