365 Photo Challenge, Alabama, Dutch Oven, Ft. Toulouse, Motorcycle, Photo, Photography, Wetumpka

http://tchphotography.smugmug.com/FT-Toulouse/i-VVpMnvH/A

I took a trip during the summer to Ft. Toulouse for a Dutch Oven Gathering (DOG) during one of there weekend encampments.  I had a great time and learned a lot.  All the volunteers dressed in period clothes and answered any questions that anyone may have had.  It was a long day because I rode my motorcycle down there.  It took nearly three hours to get there from my house.  The below is from their website.

Located just south of Wetumpka where the Coosa and Tallapoosa rivers meet to form the headwaters of the Alabama River, visitors will find over 6,000 years of history at Fort Toulouse-Jackson National Historic Park. One of the areas best tourist attractions, the park is open year round and everyone is invited to enjoy 165 acres of living history and natural beauty. Tour the French and American Forts, or the Mississipian Indian Mound site or just relax and take a walk along the William Bartram Arboretum trail, named for the famed 18th century botanist. Top off your trip with a visit to the Grave’s House where you’ll find a bookstore and museum featuring archaeological collections from French colonial, early American and prehistoric Indian items. The park also hosts a full service 39-site campground overlooking the Coosa River.

Most months visitors are able to be a part of living history weekends involving the French Marines at Fort Toulouse or the Tennessee Militia and the U.S. Army Regulars at Fort Jackson. In addition, visoriors will find historc black-smithing weekends as well as special events throughout the year such as Frontier Days in the Fall and the French and Indian Spring Encampment.

Good news to share tonight. I heard from my oncologist today. He said that things looked better this time around.
There are three tests that he performs. All three tests started off extremely high. Two of those test for the past few months have come back with no trace which is what we’re looking for but one of these test is being somewhat stubborn. Six weeks ago the results were .22 which had went up from .134. The last test showed .0015 which is excellent compared to 138 nearly a year ago (normal is between 5 and 10). We’re still looking for zero. I go back in 2 months for another round of tests. Thanks for all your prayers and support.

It was cold, windy and cloudy all day today but just as the sun went down the clouds cleared, the temperatures dropped like a rock and out comes Mr. Moon.  I wished this photo was better but it was just too cold for my hands to operate.

The overgrown rodent has predicted another six more weeks of winter and I for one is ready for winter to pack her bags and leave.  The weather here doesn’t seem to know exactly what to do.  It was in the 60’s on Saturday and right now it’s in the 20’s.  There is even talk of snow later on this week.  Can’t wait until spring time.

I don’t know much about them only that they are real big into Boy Scouts and they have a program for their young adult men that has them travel elsewhere to be missionaries for two years.  This young man belongs to the LDS church, Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints, and they are sending him to South Africa. They way I understand it, he will have no contact with his parents, friends or anyone else stateside during his time there.  I have a hard enough time with my son in college and it’s only 45 miles away and he calls us on a daily basis.  I guess it goes back to having faith in your beliefs.

The parents had a send off party today for him and there were well over 100 people at his house.  He leaves early Tuesday morning.

Good Luck Michael

You ever have one of those days where nothing seemed like nothing went right and that you should have stayed in bed? Today was one of those days for me.  It started late last night when I got the email saying that my shoot was postponed.  I was not happy and I went to bed mad and I couldn’t sleep.  It was not until 4 am until I got my head cleared enough to where I could go to sleep.  What burnt me up so bad was that we have talked for several weeks trying to settle on a date and then when we do she up’s and cancels on me.  Anyway, if she want’s to get together again, she’s going to have to make the first step. Not me.

Today, once I finally got out of bed, I spent the day doing honey do’s.  I had to go to the paint store and get paint then spent the remainder of the afternoon painting our garage doors.  It needed done and I’m glad I did it because we’re supposed to get several inches of rain tomorrow.

Picture was taken several years ago at Tannehill Historical Park.  Civil War reenactment.  It was fun and it was loud especially when those cannons went off.  People dressed in period clothing, camping in period tents and cooking in period cookware.  It’s amazing how these people lived in those days.  We’ve come a long way.

This year has been full of “New Beginnings” and not all of them have been all that good.  I refuse to concentrate on the negatives and I’m trying to focus on all of the positives.  Last year started off really bad and I was hoping that this year would be somewhat better.

My dieting hasn’t been very productive and I haven’t started exercising like I wanted and it’s already February.  It just seems like there is always something preventing me from getting on the trainer or the treadmill.  I’m always finding excuses and it’s always “I’ll do it tomorrow.  I’ve lost 40 lbs in about four months two years ago and I know I can do it again it’s just getting started that’s the trouble.

I’ve got my first photoshoot tomorrow afternoon so my plan is to get up early, get on that treadmill for at least thirty minutes then get my day started.  I need to set up a goal to reward myself for every so many pounds I lose.  It needs to be something that I really enjoy, not food, and that it will be worth losing the weight other than my health. Any suggestions?  I was thinking that every 20 pounds I would reward myself with something.

The above picture is of a couple that I shot for their engagement.  It’s been over a year since they’ve been married and now she is currently pregnant and not doing to good. She’s in her final trimester and the poor girl has been sick since she’s gotten pregnant. She’s a sweet young lady and I’m sure she’ll be a great mother.  After this one she’ll probably not get pregnant again. lol

It’s the weekend.  I hope everyone has a great weekend and I hope you get to spend time with your loved ones.

I’m excited because after nearly a year I’ve finally got a photo shoot scheduled.  Between work, family and other hobbies I just haven’t had time to do any real shooting.  I’ve done some outdoor stuff but I haven’t done any “people work” in nearly a year.

I’ve got a shoot scheduled for Saturday and I’m talking to three other women so I should have my work cut out for me for a few weekends.  I can’t wait until spring time so I can start shooting some in the evenings.

I laugh at the title.  It was bad but wasn’t that bad.  It started snowing around 9:30 am that morning and when it hit the roadways it immediately turned to ice. Local school districts in the area started closing and the mass exodus commenced.  This cause major traffic jams with the roadways began to ice over it meant that many motorists decided to leave their vehicles in the middle of the streets.  Many of the people that left early to go get their kids from school soon returned because they couldn’t make it to the main road.  Over 1500 people were stranded at our place of business that night and nearly 100 the following night as well.

They let me go to attempt to get home at 4:30 pm.  With all my medications at home along with my CPAP I had to at least make an attempt at it. It normally takes 45 minutes to make the trip but on this night it took a little longer.  It alone took me 45 minutes to get to the main road and another 30 minutes to get to the interstate.  Three hours later I made it as far as I could with the roads conditions deteriorating.  The temps had dropped down to 19 degrees before I made it to the bottom of this long hill.  This is where I had to park my truck and hike the remaining three miles to get home.  All in all it only took me nearly four hours to make the trek home.  I was one of the lucky ones.  There were many that had to stay in their vehicles for over 24 hours.

From now on, if there is a mention of snow in the forecast, I will stay in the warmth of my home.  I do not ever want to go through that again.

With all this snow talk up north I decided I’d post a picture of the snow we got last year.  In fact it was a year ago this week when we got snowed in.  I think we had about an inch of ice with about four inches of snow.  Shut the city down for about 48 hours.  This was nothing compared to the winter storm of ’93 when we had 18 inches of snow. We were snowed in for over a week.  We lost power for five days and had to heat and cook our food via a fireplace.  In fact, we even had to sleep in the den next to the fireplace because we had a waterbed at the time.  No power means a very cold waterbed.  We emptied our refrigerator and put all of our perishables outside on the deck.  We simply dug a hole in the snow, put everything in it and covered it up.  Didn’t lose a thing.

I like snow but I like it for one day and the next it’s gone.  It makes for some pretty pictures, don’t you think?

What more could a person ask for?  Meet Taffy Marie from London England no less.  It was strange to find her here in Alabama. She was a lot of fun to work with and I loved hearing her talk.  Her mom and dad both were in the military in England and somehow ended up here in the states.  Once in the states her family moved all the time.  Taffy no longer lives in Alabama and now resides in Florida somewhere near the coast.

Enjoy the pictures and as always, comments welcome.

Have a safe week everyone.
