I just signed up for the 29-mile Crimson Tide Ride in Tuscaloosa on July 28th.  I’ve ridden this ride several times but when this medication started messing with my lungs, I was no longer able to do so.  Right now, I feel like I can do it again.  It’s true that my longest ride so far this year has only been a little over eight miles, with the time left before the ride, I’m confident that I’ll be able to do the ride.  That is if my new meds don’t interfere.  If I continue to improve, I should be able to do the 36 mile next year.  I understand it has several more hills to overcome.

Yesterday, our company participated in the Birmingham Corporate Challenge.  There were several events ranging from tug of war, corn hole, homerun derby, dodgeball, cycling and several other events. I participated in the 10k bike stroll.  It was a very simple route.  It was a three-mile loop that you had to do twice in which about a mile of it was a long hill.  This hill nearly whooped my butt the second time around.  Having forgotten my water bottle didn’t help matters any.  The event actually started with events on Thursday and ended about 6pm on Saturday.  Our company came in second overall last year.  It was sponsored by Chik fila and they gave out free chicken sandwiches.  I can’t wait to see where our company ended up in the standings this year.

365 Day Photo Challenge, Alabama, Bike, Birmingham, Cycling, Grismill, Loose Spoke, Photography, Railroad Park, Tannehill, Warped Wheel

I took my twin daughters to a band banquet tonight. The event was held at the McWane Center in downtown Birmingham.  It seems that they have a banquet hall that was affordable for the students.  The girls thought is was unnecessary for us to attend being that they only recognize the seniors but they did need transportation to and from the event.  What a perfect time for me to get some good shots of downtown Birmingham at night.

My first stop after dropping the girls off was the Alabama Theater.  That place was packed.  It looked like by the amount of little girls entering the theater in TuTu’s that there was a dance recital going on.  To many people going in and out of the place to get a good HDR image plus there not a parking space in site.

The next stop was the new Railroad Park.  Same thing.  No parking and they had some event going on there as well.  Too much traffic to have to deal with. The next stop was across town to a Methodist church that everyone seems to like to take pictures of.  A wedding was about to take place and the bride and groom was having their picture taken out front.  Strike three.

Near Railroad Park is a set of tunnels that someone had put lights in that change color.  It’s a popular place for photographers to take pictures.  I was bound and determined to take some shots there no matter what it took.  I got there and I found a parking place.  My thought was to get in a position to get the tunnel in frame as well as getting a trail of brake lights going into the tunnel.   I got out of the truck, with camera in one hand and the tripod in the other I started for the tunnel.  I got to a position to where I thought I could get some decent shots when my phone goes off.  It’s one of my daughters.  They’re standing outside waiting on me to come and pick them up.  Needless to say that I didn’t get a shot off tonight. The good news is that I was able to spend time with my daughters even if it was just for a few minutes.

I was able to get my bike to the shop.  I inspected it before loading it up on the bike rack and noticed that one of the spokes was loose.  I don’t own the tools to tighten the spokes nor did I have the time to try and true the wheel myself so I took it to the shop.  I’ll pick it up on Monday.

Good news to share tonight. I heard from my oncologist today. He said that things looked better this time around.
There are three tests that he performs. All three tests started off extremely high. Two of those test for the past few months have come back with no trace which is what we’re looking for but one of these test is being somewhat stubborn. Six weeks ago the results were .22 which had went up from .134. The last test showed .0015 which is excellent compared to 138 nearly a year ago (normal is between 5 and 10). We’re still looking for zero. I go back in 2 months for another round of tests. Thanks for all your prayers and support.

365 Photo Challenge, Aggravated, Photo Shoot, Photographer, Photography, Railroad Park, Retirement

A little disappointed tonight as I have just found out the young lady I was to photography tomorrow at Railroad park has to work and will not be able to make it.  The only days she has available for a shoot are the days I’m either booked or have to work.  This is a common problem with trying to work out a photo shoot.  I wished I made enough money at it so I could quit my full time job and be a photographer full time.  I think that we all know that won’t happen at least until I can retire in three years.

Life goes on.
