Day one in the books.

For the most part it was successful.  I did not reach my 10000 steps.  Most weekends I do not get near that goal. It’s a challenge for me to get it during the week bu achievable.

I had a bag of popcorn just before 7 pm and I had one peanut butter cookie that my daughter had made the other day.  I did have one soda and one container of strawberry yogurt.

I did not get on my treadmill nor my trainer today,  I spent the majority of my day installing a garage door opener.  I will finish that job tomorrow.

I kept my calories down well below 2000 but I’m craving something to eat right now.  I am very proud of my self for not eating at Jack’s Hamburger this morning.  I had a meeting with a scout parent there this morning and he and his son ate biscuits and grave right in front of me.  I waited until I got home and had my cereal with 2 percent milk.

I’m really excited about today.  I have decided to take my life back and start loosing this weight again. Since it’s become cooler I haven’t been able to get outside and ride.  It’s no excuse though because I have both a bicycle trainer as well as a treadmill and I haven’t been on but a few times.

I’ve set new goals that I think I’ll be able to achieve.

1.  No sweets

2.  10,000 steps a day

3. 2,000 calories or less a day

4.  Use the treadmill and bicycle trainer at least three times a week

5. Cut out soft drinks.

7.  Nothing to eat past 7 pm

I want to loose at least 10 pounds by the end of February.

Today’s starting weight is 287 pounds.

Short Term Goal 277 pounds by February 28th

Long Term Goal 225 pounds by January 2015

Wish Me Luck.

It’s been a while I know…

Life has been a roller-coaster for me and my family the last few months.  I won’t bore everyone with the details but I can promise you I’m glad to finally start getting my life put back together.

My riding has become non existent.

Just haven’t had the time.  My eating habits has also gone by the way side so as you may have guessed it my weight has gone back up.  I eat when I’m stressed and believe me, I have been stressed to the top of the mark lately.

We buried my father-in-law about a month ago.  Wife and kids are doing better.  He was 89 so he lived a full life.  He had two heart attacks in less than two months.  He fell when he had his last one and broke his hip in the process.  He lasted about two weeks before the family decided to turn the machines that kept him alive off.

It’s Christmas time and this is my favorite time of the year.  I love the songs, the gatherings and the spirit of the season.  Wished we could keep this feeling all year long.  I’ve got to get a handle on my eating.  I’ve got a doctor’s appointment in February so I’ve got to get back on track.  Don’t need another talking too by my doctor.

Has anyone had any luck with HGH?  I’m trying it but only been on it about a week.  So far no change.

Merry Christmas Everyone!!

Cycling as a stress reliever?

After a horrid weekend, by the way, sorry for the rant the other day, I went on a short bike ride through my community.  It’s the first one since I broke my rib at work.  It took me a little while to get motivated and I guess that’s because of the mood I was in.

Once I got on the road I started feeling better.  I don’t know if it’s because of the wind in my face or the exercise I was getting but I was a different person when I got home.  In fact, my wife even noticed a difference.

With the days getting shorter and the time change this weekend it will be near impossible for me to get a ride in when I get home from work.  I’ve got a trainer that I’ve been on a couple of times and believe me it’s not the same as being out on the road.

Feeling Discouraged

Today was horrible.  It started at 6:30 this morning when my phone rang.  It was my coordinator calling me to tell me that there was a problem at one of our buildings.  One of my computer room units had gone into alarm.  Every four months I have to go on call for the entire month.  Some months I don’t get called while others, well let’s just say that I don’t get much sleep.  This has been one of those months.

It wouldn’t be so bad if my co workers would do what they’re supposed to do and order replacement parts when they use a part  It seems that it always shows up when I’m on call and I have to replace a part.  I am tired of spending time searching for parts that are supposed to be there but are not because someone didn’t order a replacement part.  It’s not so bad during the week because all you have to do is go to the supply house and get what you need,  What pisses me off is when I’m called out on weekends or in the middle of the night and don’t have the part.  I’m screwed.

I get to work at 7:30 am, find the unit that’s in alarm.  I reset the unit and check out the unit.  Everything checks out fine.  I work on HVAC equipment and it was 36 degrees outside this morning.  I won’t bore everyone even further with all the mechanical details but everything checked out ok.  Got into my truck to head home and got called again by my coordinator.  This time I have some issues in another building.  There are four buildings that we have and we have to drive to them because they’re to far to walk.  I drive to that building, check everything out, reset some equipment and all is good.  We always have issues with our equipment needing to be reset during cold snaps and this is our first one.

I log three hours this morning and I am home, with clothes changed and about to watch some TV when my phone rings again.  I have more equipment in alarm and I change clothes again back into my work clothes.  It’s 10:30 am by this time. I arrive at work at 11:15 AM, this time it’s software issues and My coordinator is there to take care of that problem.  In the mean time another alarm goes off at yet another building so off I go.  This is where I start to get upset.

I have a bad fan motor.  No problem, I’ll grab the replacement from downstairs and I’ll change it.  Wrong, because we don’t have a replacement.  I look for over thirty minutes with no luck.  I call our supply house and they have a replacement but guess what, they’re closed.  It’s after 12 noon and they close at noon on Saturdays.  They agree to open back up but they’re going to charge me another $50 for opening the store back up.  It’s ok, it’s not my money.

Normally, I can change a fan motor in thirty minutes.  This one took me and my coordinator three hours to change.  Different motor with different mounting brackets.  Basically a pain in the butt.

We’re putting our tools up and another call comes in.  A furnace in our child care center is not working.  We found a couple of bad parts plus another fan motor bad.  You guessed it, no parts and by this time all the supply houses are closed and my coordinator doesn’t want to spend the extra $50.  I’ve got to be at work early on Monday to get to the supply house and get these parts before these kids come in and complain that it’s cold.

I finally get home at 6:30 pm.  A long day for me which, if I had all the parts, the correct parts, I would have been home long before then.

Don’t come between a hawk and his snack.

I’m wanting to do some landscaping work our Boy Scout meeting place.  I went by there yesterday afternoon and had taken several photographs when I heard this loud whooshing sound above my head. I looked up to see this large hawk diving toward me with incredible speed.  I ducked down and he flew just above my head as he dropped down low enough to grab this rat that was running across the path.  He flew up and landed on a limb and I was able to capture these images.  I hope you enjoy.ImageImageImageImage

My First 50 Miler

I met up with another boy scout troop in our district and we took a trip to Dallas Georgia to ride a section of the Silver Comet.  The Silver Comet and the Chief LaDiga Trail is an old railroad bed that has been converted to a very nice bike/  walking trail.  It goes from Anniston, Alabama to Smyrna, Georgia.  It’s part of the Rails to Trails project.  We had 18 scouts ride the trail but only 4 of us made the full 50 miles.  I hope everyone enjoys the pictures.ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageg

Roadscapes Wednesday: Georgia Wanting to License Bicycles

Roadscapes Geek Alabama

Cyclists in the south have to often deal with not so friendly drivers.  Some drivers throw trash at cyclists, say bad words at cyclists, and some drivers even attempt to run cyclists off the road.  Some drivers say cyclists have no business riding on a public roadway.  But they are wrong!  Outside of freeways and Interstates, cyclists have a right to ride on a public roadway.  But some Georgia lawmakers are so fed up with cyclists they are wanting to do anything possible to kick them off the road forever.  That means no more cyclist road rage videos like this one.

Georgia House Bill 689 was put up in the Georgia legislature from Gainesville lawmakers Carl Rogers, Lee Hawkins, and Emory Dunahoo.  The bill would require a $15 licensing fee on every bicycle in Georgia that rides in a public roadway.  That means everyone from a 40-year-old cycling adult to a little 6-year-old…
