365 Day Photo Challenge, Backyard, Mother Nature, Saturday, Weekend, Yardwork

https://tchphotography.smugmug.com/Botanical-Gardens/i-9b6QT9k/A

It seems that it’s all I look forward to these days is for the weekend to get here.  For the past several weeks I’ve been having to get up early for some reason or other on both Saturday and Sundays so my getting to sleep in has not come to pass.

I’ve got a lot planned for this weekend as far as yard work.  I’ve got to reclaim my back yard.  Mother Nature has taken over more than half my back yard so I’ve got to see if I can take some of it back.  It’s going to be a lot of hard work and more than a couple of weekends to accomplish but I’ve got nothing better to do at the moment.

Last night I was going to surprise my family with some fried apple pies.  I had seen it done several times and plus I needed the practice because our Boy Scout troop wants to do something like this for a fundraiser.  You’re supposed to be able to take biscuit dough, roll it out, put your favorite pie filling in the center, fold it over and put it in hot grease and fry it.  I did all of the above but somehow, either the oil was too hot, no thermometer, or the dough was too thick, but the center was not cooked.

It’s all good though.  It’s a learning experience and I’ll try again in a few days.

365 Day Photo Challenge, Blogging, Botanical Gardens, Flowers, Roses, Television, Weekend

https://tchphotography.smugmug.com/Botanical-Gardens/i-x8CcWK9/A

First of all as of today I’ve been “Blogging” for two years.  Never thought that would happen.  Secondly, I’ve been too negative lately in my posts and I apologise for that.  It’s for that reason I won’t be posting things about work for a while.  I will simply have to find another outlet for my frustrations.

This past weekend I had about two hours that I was able to spend with my wife.  Normally while at the house, she has her papers that she has to grade while I’m either on the computer doing emails or watching television.  Either way we’re not doing anything together.  I’ve found that we have nothing in common when it comes to watching television.  In order for us to spend any time together we’re simply going to have to get out of the house. That way it’s just her and I and we’re “forced” to spend time together.

365 Day Photo Challenge, Botanical Gardens, Fall, Flowers, Kids In The Park, People Watching, Picnic, Seasons', Weather

This has got to be my all time favorite time of the year.  The weather has been simply gorgeous the last few days.  So much so that everyone is out enjoying the day.  While my kids were helping yesterday at the Botanical Gardens, my wife and I took the opportunity to take a walk and enjoy the park for ourselves.  There were so many people out with their kids having picnics, reading books and there were several out there with photographers getting their pictures taken.  My wife and I just sat there and took it all in and remembering the days when we used to do that with our kids.  I’m hoping that there will be many more days like this to come.

After yesterday’s long day cooking at the Founder’s Day Celebration, today was spent relaxing; well, for the most part.  My daughter’s had signed up to volunteer at the Botanical Gardens helping with their Fall plant sale and my wife and I decided to go along and take a walk among the flowers and plants.  It was such a gorgeous day, a little cool in the shade but beautiful nonetheless.

As you can see there wasn’t a cloud in the ski as we walked in the flower gardens.  I brought along my camera and took tons of pictures of all the roses that were blooming.  This was the first time in months that my wife and I has had an opportunity to take a walk anywhere without the kids tagging along.  Better get used to it I guess.  College days are just around the corner.

Cobblers on on!

Cobblers on on!

After a week that I’d rather not repeat, there’s no other way to get my mind off of things  than to spend a Saturday doing what I like doing.  It wasn’t too relaxing but at least it kept my mind occupied on other things other than work.

Our Boy Scout troop set up a tent at our first annual Founders Day Celebration.  I brought a couple of my Dutch Ovens and made a couple of cobblers and sold them with all the proceeds going back into the troop.  The day started around 5:45am and I think I finally got everything loaded around 5pm.  It made for an extremely long day but I got to see old friends and made several new ones.

We had to set up in a asphalt parking lot in which I had to stand for most of the day. Right now both my feet have swelled and they hurt so I’ve got them propped up.  Even with the pain that I have in my feet and legs I think today was well worth it.

365 Day Photo Challenge, Bad Management, Retirement, Work

ksv094IcU42

I’m trying so hard to keep a positive attitude but it’s becoming very hard to do so.  We lost one of our guys today due to the management of our department and several more are talking about leaving. I’ve been with the company for nearly 30 years and I’ve never seen it this bad.  I asked on of the guys I work with what he thought we could do to boost the moral in our department.  The response he gave was to somehow obtain a new manager.  As much as I’d like to see that myself I don’t believe that’s going to happen anytime soon.  You see, the upper management likes my manager and believes he can do no wrong.  It doesn’t matter what our opinion is of him because ultimately it’s our fault that we have a problem with him.

My boss never gives one encouraging word.  You can bust your butt for hours and maybe days on end on a project and when you’re done it’s–“You missed a spot” not, Oh, you did a good job and I really appreciate what you’ve done but this is where you didn’t complete the job.  He always sees the negative and never sees the positive.  How can you work with someone like this?

I’ve stated before that I have less than 3 years left before I can retire from this job.  I’m having to bite my tongue on a daily basis not to say something that could get me fired.  I just hope for my families sake that I can hold out to either I can retire or the management sees that our management needs an overhaul.

365 Day Photo Challenge, Bad Business, Friend, Friendship, Retirement

https://tchphotography.smugmug.com/Luke/n-KLq9NW/i-PDGdCjk/A

It will be a challenging day tomorrow because we’re losing one of our guys.  He’s been with the company for over twelve years and I not only count him as a co worker but also as a dear friend.  He’s had all he can take and he’s found him another job elsewhere.

A little over a year ago our department changed management and to be honest no one likes the new guy.  He’s too strict and so dominating.  He doesn’t believe in camaraderie and everything should be strictly business.  He’s too much of a company man.  I’ve been with this company for nearly thirty years and I’ve never been treated as bad as I have been treated during the last few months and it’s only getting worse.  I don’t blame my friend at all for leaving.  In fact, if I were in the same shoes I’d be right behind him.  However, I’ve only got 34 months before I can retire so I’m going to have to keep biting my tongue and live with it until either my boss gets the message, I get fired or I retire.

I wish you the best my friend.

Tomorrow my daughter’s turn 18.  I’m not ready for them to be this old.  One has been accepted to the same college that my son is going to and the other daughter hasn’t applied to any colleges yet but soon will.  Tonight my daughters went to church and left my wife and I at the house alone. We’ve been without our kids on several occasions but tonight it felt a little different.  I guess just knowing that in just a few months from now there is a very good chance that we will be experiencing the empty nest syndrome.  My wife and talked about this for a minute but my wife quickly changed the subject.  I could tell in her voice that she didn’t want to talk about it and soon it was clear to me because she had a tear run down her cheek.  It’s going to be much harder on her than on me I think.

365 Day Photo Challenge, Dad, Electrician, HVAC, Light Fixture, Repair

12004907_10153161173548946_990590239291087196_n

I didn’t sleep much last night due to leg cramps and a low sugar episode. When I did finally get out of bed this morning I could hardly move.  That little stunt in the attic yesterday really did me in.

I took off a little early to take my daughter to a Honor Band tryout but when I got home there was a message waiting on me telling me that the tryouts had been postponed.  Instead of taking it easy and getting a nap in I took the light fixture down, drilled out the holes with my Rotor Zip tool and remounted the fixture.  No big deal.

I have been known to be called Jack of all trades master of one.  I do have my HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) licences but only after about five years of going to night school.  As far as being an electrician, I do have some training but only when it comes to HVAC.  I have to give my dad credit when it comes to all my electrical learning.  My dad was the true Jack of all trades master of all.  He can do anything from plumbing, electrical and anything else you might need him to do.  You can give hime the dimensions of a house and he can tell you how much lumber you’ll need and not have much left over.  This is not an exaggeration because I’ve seen him do it multiple times. My dad does have his Masters in the electrical field.  It took him several years to get it but he never gave up.

My dad and I worked together a lot while I was growing up.  It didn’t matter what he was working on I’d be right there with him handing him the tools of the trade.  I think that’s where I got my “knowledge” on working of different things. He was never afraid to try anything once.  I remember watching my dad work on the television when I was just a kid.  I remember him telling me not to touch this or that or I’d get a shock.  I had no idea he could work on such things but the next day the television would be fixed.  I remember telling my dad that I wanted to be just like him when i grew up.  You know what??  I did.

On a side note.  Both my parents are still alive.  They are both in their seventies and I count it a blessing everyday that I can still talk to them.  Dad taught me the tools of the trade while my mom taught me the joys of cooking, among other things.
