Today started at 4:00 a.m.

Not because I wanted it to… but because apparently my life has decided that sleep is optional now.

I got up, got moving, and made my way across town for my 6:00 a.m. Bible study. There’s something about starting your day that early that makes you feel accomplished… and slightly confused about what day it actually is.

After that, I met up with my fishing buddy Rick for breakfast. Not long into it, my brother-in-law showed up—another fisherman, and to make things worse (or better, depending on how you look at it), he lives on the river.

So naturally, what was supposed to be a quick breakfast turned into a full-blown fishing summit.

We sat there long after the plates were cleared, swapping stories about recent trips and, of course, honoring the sacred tradition of talking about “the one that got away.” I’m convinced those fish get bigger every time we tell the story.

They started talking about the next fishing trip, and I had to sit that part out—for now. I’ve got a pain block scheduled this Thursday, and I’m hoping it gives me enough relief to get back out on the kayak soon. Because right now, the only thing I’m catching is back pain.

The afternoon was spent in the shop creating a respectable amount of sawdust, which is my way of saying I worked hard but also made a mess I’ll deal with later.

Then it was off to my CERT class this evening—our final one. For the past nine weeks, we’ve been learning how to respond in emergencies, and this Saturday is the big test and drill. Not just a written test either… we actually have to prove we’ve been paying attention.

No pressure.

Somewhere in the middle of all this, I’ve been working on a Mother’s Day gift for my mom. I had a bigger idea planned, but after looking at it… and looking at it again… and then criticizing it like only I can, I decided to pivot.

My wife says it looked fine.

I say it looked like a future “learning experience.”

So I scaled it down to something simpler, and honestly, it’s going a lot better. I’ve got most of it done—just some sanding and paint left. If all goes well, I should have it finished tomorrow.

Speaking of tomorrow… the weather has decided to add a little excitement back into the schedule. There’s a risk of severe storms, including tornadoes.

That’s something that always hits a little differently.

Back in 2011, our town was devastated by a tornado. Our home was spared, but many weren’t. Lives were lost, and that’s something you don’t forget. So yeah, when the meteorologists start using words like “rotation” and “severe,” my anxiety tends to show up right on time.

If everything goes according to plan, I’m hoping for a little reward at the end of this week. If the pain block works, I may try to get back out on the water on Friday. After the CERT drill on Saturday, I’ll handle any last-minute touch-ups on Mom’s gift—if needed.

It’s been a long day. The kind that starts early, ends late, and somehow still feels like there’s more to do.

But it’s also been a full day.

And I’ll take that—even if it comes with a 4:00 a.m. alarm clock and a recliner waiting on standby.

Alabama, Disney, Family, Flowers, Graduation, High School Graduation, Orlando Florida, Rose, University of Alabama, Vacation

It’s been a busy past few weeks here in the deep south. In fact, the whole month of May is going to be very busy.  My son graduated from the University of Alabama this past Friday evening, my twin daughters had their spring concert last week, and they had their awards program tonight to list a few.  I’ve got cataract surgery on Thursday, a bicycle ride that I’ll be working communication this Sunday and my daughters graduation in two weeks.  Not to mention a couple of other doctor appointments thrown in there for good measure.

I knew this month would be busy and I’m trying to build my vacation time up so I’ve been working a lot of overtime so as to not have to take personal time when taking time off.  It’s an okay plan but I’m not getting home until late and the girls have already gone to bed when I do get home.  I’ve got a week in June that I’ll be taking off to take the kids to Disney in Orlando Florida so I’ve got to have at least forty hours to be able to take off.  It will be close but I’ll make it.

First of all as of today I’ve been “Blogging” for two years.  Never thought that would happen.  Secondly, I’ve been too negative lately in my posts and I apologise for that.  It’s for that reason I won’t be posting things about work for a while.  I will simply have to find another outlet for my frustrations.

This past weekend I had about two hours that I was able to spend with my wife.  Normally while at the house, she has her papers that she has to grade while I’m either on the computer doing emails or watching television.  Either way we’re not doing anything together.  I’ve found that we have nothing in common when it comes to watching television.  In order for us to spend any time together we’re simply going to have to get out of the house. That way it’s just her and I and we’re “forced” to spend time together.

This has got to be my all time favorite time of the year.  The weather has been simply gorgeous the last few days.  So much so that everyone is out enjoying the day.  While my kids were helping yesterday at the Botanical Gardens, my wife and I took the opportunity to take a walk and enjoy the park for ourselves.  There were so many people out with their kids having picnics, reading books and there were several out there with photographers getting their pictures taken.  My wife and I just sat there and took it all in and remembering the days when we used to do that with our kids.  I’m hoping that there will be many more days like this to come.

Today marks my 100 post during my 365 day photo challenge.  To be honest I wouldn’t have thought I would have made it this far.  I’d like to thank all the followers for their patience and understanding.  I know I”m not a writer but I do like to jot things down and I also know that most of the time it doesn’t make sense.  I had no idea that I would have gained 151 followers.  That just blows my mind.  I know I complain a lot and by now most of you that have followed me from the start should know I have a lot to complain about.

Thank you to all my followers for putting up with me and my complaints.  I’m not saying it’s going to get any better and it will probably be just as boring at times but I will try to keep it going for another 100 days.

Being that Friday is Good Friday I have the day off.  I’m really looking forward to a day off.  I’m hoping to get some major riding in being that I will be taking a day trip to Atlanta on Saturday and won’t be able to get a ride in.  It really depends on the weather.  I got a little more than 15 miles in today but it was forecasted to rain. Next week it’s supposed to rain all week.  Bummer.

I had my GOPro attached to my bicycle tonight and got some cool video.  I’m hoping to post some of it within the next day or two.  It was light out when I left but it got dark on my pretty quick and you can tell it on the video.

I missed a day.  I’m somewhat upset with myself for missing a day but what can I say.  I’m not perfect and it was bound to happen.  I guess I was so tired last night that I completely forgot to post.

I got a chance to back to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens today and get some new material.  I know everyone should be happy with that.  Right now it’s more flowers and arch ways but at least it’s something new.  Next Saturday I’ll be shooting a young lady near Atlanta Ga. so I’ll have more new material to share.

I’m so glad Spring has finally arrived.  Today was a little on the cool side but is expected to warm back up tomorrow afternoon.  I do not like cold weather.  I don’t like it extremly hot either but I’ll take it over cold any day.

Have a Happy Sunday.

My internet is still down and I’m still having to go through my hotspot on my IPhone so I’ll leave my comments short.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  I stayed too busy to really enjoy it but I did get to spend the time doing what I enjoyed doing.  Back to the grindstone tomorrow.

Have a great week everyone!!!

I’m really trying to be positive and think that spring is just around the corner.  It’s hard to do these days when everyday you turn on the news to find that there is another round of cold arctic air with more potential freezing rain and/or snow on the way.

I am looking forward to the day when I can get outside and do some hiking and maybe wet the line of a fishing pole.  I’m looking forward to the day of riding by bicycle and getting some much needed exercise.  I’m an outdoor person and having to stay inside these past few months has given me a bad case of cabin fever.  When spring time finally shows her head, you’ll be hard press to find me inside.  Look for me in the woods or on the roadway on my bicycle.
