365 Day Photo Challenge, Christmas, December, snow, Spring, Winter

Here it is the middle of December and the high today was 73 degrees.  By this time last year we already had snow on the ground that lasted several days.  So far this winter we’ve only had a couple of cold days with mostly mild temperatures.  There is a storm coming tonight with a small chance of severe weather. Mostly high winds with hopefully minimal damage.  The temperature is supposed to drop next week but be back in the 70’s again by Christmas.  Really mild winter so far.  I hope it continues.

365 Day Photo Challenge, Alabama, Birmingham, Botanical Gardens, Flowers, Photo, Photography, Spring, Weather

I missed a day.  I’m somewhat upset with myself for missing a day but what can I say.  I’m not perfect and it was bound to happen.  I guess I was so tired last night that I completely forgot to post.

I got a chance to back to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens today and get some new material.  I know everyone should be happy with that.  Right now it’s more flowers and arch ways but at least it’s something new.  Next Saturday I’ll be shooting a young lady near Atlanta Ga. so I’ll have more new material to share.

I’m so glad Spring has finally arrived.  Today was a little on the cool side but is expected to warm back up tomorrow afternoon.  I do not like cold weather.  I don’t like it extremly hot either but I’ll take it over cold any day.

Have a Happy Sunday.

Or should it read Welcome Spring!!  I can’t believe Spring has finally arrived.  It’s been long awaited.  Although, Winter may show her ugly head again before Summer officially arrives I will enjoy it while it lasts.

I went out and bought a new bicycle helmet today.  My old helmet was a Wal-Mart special.  I think I paid $10 for it.  I don’t think I would’ve gotten much protection if I had been in a bad accident but at least I had one.  I’ve read a lot of reviews on the Kali helmets and it comes highly recommended.  For $90 bucks t it had better offer some protection.  My first big ride will be tomorrow morning.  I’m planning on getting up and riding at least 20 miles in the morning then I’m going to a campout that the scouts are having.  Should be a fun filled day tomorrow.

It’s not what I wanted to do but it got dark on me.  It felt good being out there on my bike and feeling the cool breeze.  If I’ve learned anything the last two days is that I am out of shape.  I’ve signed up for a 46 mile bike ride in less than a month and I’ll tell you, I’m not ready.

Tomorrow the rain returns and it’s supposed to rain until Saturday morning.  Should be nice on Sunday.  My plan is to ride 20 miles this weekend.  We shall see.

I went to my eye doctor this afternoon and I got a good report.  I don’t have to go back to see him for six months.  The best news is that I’m done having injections in my eyes.  Those were tough to deal with.

I’m really trying to be positive and think that spring is just around the corner.  It’s hard to do these days when everyday you turn on the news to find that there is another round of cold arctic air with more potential freezing rain and/or snow on the way.

I am looking forward to the day when I can get outside and do some hiking and maybe wet the line of a fishing pole.  I’m looking forward to the day of riding by bicycle and getting some much needed exercise.  I’m an outdoor person and having to stay inside these past few months has given me a bad case of cabin fever.  When spring time finally shows her head, you’ll be hard press to find me inside.  Look for me in the woods or on the roadway on my bicycle.

365 Photo Challenge, Alabama, Barefoot, Birmingham, Botanical Gardens, cold weather, Flowers, Photo Shoot, Photography, Rain, Rose, Spring, Weather

Another dreary, wet day in the deep south.  With the temps hovering in the low to mid forties and low thick clouds that hung around most of the day made this boy wish for spring even more today.  Rain is falling right now and is expected to stick around until early Saturday morning with a chance of light snow before ending.

I have a photo shoot scheduled for Saturday afternoon with a young single mom.  Nothing too fancy just some catalogue work.  I haven’t photographed anyone in quite some time.  Lately all I’ve been able to shoot are some landmarks and my pets.  I hope she isn’t afraid of some cool weather and we get some good shots.

The above photo is from the Botanical Gardens located here in the Birmingham area.  It’s free to enter and has sever genre of flowers and trees to sit and ponder things through.  I really enjoy going there when I have the time to spend.  The last time I was there I nearly had a hawk on top of me.  She was after a squirrel and I got in her way.

I admit, I shot her!

Bird, Deer, Feathers, Nesting, Photography, Spring, Tree

With my camera!!.  Come spring time I’ll wish I had got her with something more lethal.  I love most animals and I love to take pictures of them.  What I’d love to shoot and I have never been invited is a deer.  Not with a gun mind you but with a camera.

I’m assuming this is mother Mocking Bird waiting on her mate to bring nesting material.  They have nested in this same tree for over five years now.  I keep calling her a she but in reality I’m not sure what sex this bird is.  Two summers ago I found  feathers of a Mocking bird on the ground next to the tree where they nest.  I figured that the mate would move on but to my amazement there were two nesting last year.

She kept moving around and I found it hard to get a decent shot of her due to the limbs in the tree.  I know my neighbors thought I was crazy but who cares.  I knew what I was doing.
