I spent the day today as a couch potato.  Yesterday wore me out.  My legs and shoulders are sore and it’s tough getting up and down.  I’m not complaining mind you, it’s just been a while since I’ve been this sore.

This past week was a slim week on the bicycle and more on the treadmill. I only biked 47 miles and yet I’ve walked about 10 miles on the treadmill.  Next week I have a lot of preparation to do to get ready for a trip with my twin daughters so my bike riding will put on hold.  Therefore, I’m thinking about putting my bike in the shop for some preventive maintenance and maybe some new tape on my handlebar. The tape used to be white but they have turned to a gray color with all the dirt and grime from changing flat tires with no gloves on.  I’m thinking about going to a red color. Maybe red won’t show the dirt as much.

I will be getting up at 5:15 in the morning to get ready to drive to Marion, Alabama for the Old Howard 100 Bike Ride.  I have signed up for the 46 mile loop.  One of these days I’ll do the 103 mile loop but not tomorrow.  I’m not sure I’m fully prepared for this ride but I know that I’m more prepared than I was last year at this time.  The weather does look better than it did last night at this time.  They’re still predicting rain but it may hold off until after the ride.  My rain jacket is in my backpack ready to go just in case.

The above picture was taken while I was inside a large water pit.  The picture is of the inlet valve of a water pump.  I thought the water droplets made for an interesting picture.

I did not do any type of workout this evening.  I went to a club meeting after I ate supper and didn’t get back until nearly 9 pm.  I still had a few things to get together for tomorrow’s ride so I decided to take a rest day today.

Wish me luck tomorrow.  I’m just going to take my time and enjoy myself.

Momma goose is still doing her duty.  There had been reports that she wasn’t there and something had got her.  One of the cleaning ladies was very upset because she went up to see her and she was gone.  She assumed the worse.  I walked up to her and took this picture with my cell phone.  She was not happy that I got close to her. We raised geese when I was a kid so I knew what to expect.  She hissed and hissed at me.  I tried to calm her down but she wanted no part of me being that close to her.

It’s funny how weight fluxuates.  I’ll gain one pound one week and lose two the next or gain two pounds one week and gain another pound the next.  It’s so aggravating to work so hard at losing weight only to find that you gain.  But, I read this just a short time ago, “It’s not the weight loss, it’s the health that the most important”.  As long as I’m doing the treadmill or my bicycle every day or even a few days a week it can only help.  I am partial to the weight loss side though.  It’s more gratifying.

I’ts rained just about all day today.  In fact, there’s a chance of rain all week this week with storms moving in on Friday.  Because of the rain, I got on the treadmill and did 2 miles this evening.  I’d rather have been on my bike.  In less than 2 weeks I have a 46 mile ride down in Marion Alabama and I’m not ready.  I believe that if the ride was today I could do it, it would be rough but I could do it.

Have a safe week everyone!!

This is the second time to post this.  The first time didn’t post for some reason.  Oh well.  Got a photo shoot tomorrow in Atlanta Ga at 1pm.  I’m planning on getting there at 9 am Georgia time to scope the place out and to take some pictures before it get’s too crowded.

My app screwed my mileage up today.  I biked over 21 miles today but my app messed up where I stopped and took a photo and it only logged a little over 17 miles.  I’ve logged over 2,000 miles with this app and this is the first time that this has done this.

My bike rides are finally getting to me.  My legs feel like jello and my arms feel like they’re about to fall off.  I did another 15 miles tonight and averaged 12 mph.  I’m not where I was two years ago but I’m getting there.  Tomorrows plan is to get up early and do my full loop which is about 23 miles.

My weight is not really going anywhere.  I’ve lost about 11 pounds but it goes up one day and down the next.  Could be muscle weight.  Maybe not.

Well, for me that is.  Anytime I get through with a workout and my clothes feel as though I just took a dip in the pool with them on then I call that a good workout.  I did 45 minutes on the treadmill at a little over 3 mph.  I know by reading some of the blogs that I follow that this isn’t nothing but for an overweight old man I feel that it is.  It’s a start and tomorrow if it’s nice out I’ll get about 15 miles on my bicycle.  As predicted yesterday we’ve had some pretty rough storms come through here this evening.

Today was a day of rest, sort of. I didn’t get on my treadmill nor did I get on my bike.  I used this time to work on my bike.  I’m somewhat disappointed in the tires that I bought a little over a year ago. Granted when I bought these I had already ordered some Grand Prix that came highly recommended for the condition of the roads around my house. The Grand Prix were not going to get here in time for my next big ride so I went ahead and got the cheaper tires so I could go riding.  The Bontrager tires that were purchased lasted year only had about 500 miles on them before they went bald and started showing the lining.  I’m glad I only paid around $30 each for them.

So I took a day of rest so that means that I’ll have to really work on the treadmill tomorrow night and the rest of the week.  It’s supposed to storm tomorrow evening and rain the rest of the week until Friday so unfortunately I’ll be seeing more of my treadmill than I want too.  Alabama weather goes nuts this time of year.  You never know what the weather is going to do until that day.

I’ll be in Atlanta Georgia on Saturday at the Sweetwater Creek State Park so if you’re in the area give me a shout and we’ll hook up.  I’m going to spend the first part of the day taking pictures of the wildlife and landscape.  The afternoon is going to be taking pictures of a beautiful young lady.  Can’t wait to share some new work.

The above is an HDR image of the entrance to the Japanese Gardens at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens in Birmingham, Alabama.  Hope you enjoy.  If you like this image click on it and it will take you to my smugmug website where you will find more pictures.

Good Friday is this week so I have a four day week ahead.  I’m excited but at the same time I’m apprehensive too.  Over half the department will be off so it’s going to be a very busy four days.

I got over twenty miles in today.  Yesterday was just too cold for me to ride as I don’t own any cold weather riding gear.  The temp climbed to around 60 degrees this afternoon so I decided to see if I could get a ride in.  I have an adapter to fit a GoPro on my handlebar but I couldn’t find it.  I hoping to mount my GoPro and take a short vid of the route that I take to show everyone.

365 Day Photo Challenge, 50 miler, Alabama, Bike Riding, Cycling, Dieting, Georgia, Rockmart Georgia, Silver Comet Trail, treadmill, Weightloss, workout

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

As of today I have lost ten pounds since I’ve started dieting.  I started on the first day of March.  I’ve lost weight and gain it back, lost the weight again and then gain it back.  I have found out that I can’t just watch what I eat and expect to lose any weight.  I have to do some sort of exercise and do some major sweating.

When this picture was taken nearly two years ago I had gotten down to around 270 pounds.  Keep in mind I started off at 345 pounds.  The really sad part about this is that I was not at my heaviest when I found out I was diabetic.  I gained even more weight after I was diagnosed.  Once I had reached the 345 mark it was then I decided I really needed to do something.  I started cutting back on my sweets, cutting out bread and cut down on eating between meals.  It worked for a while.  Over about a two year period I lost down to about 310 pounds.

A little over two years ago my doctor told me that if I didn’t do something I would not see my son who was in his second year of college graduate.  Nor would I see my twin daughters graduate high school.  In other words, he put the fear of God in me.  I went home that evening and got on my treadmill.

I started off at thirty minutes, then 45, then an hour and before I knew it I was on my treadmill for 90 minutes.  This was every night but Monday nights and any other night that I might have something else to do but that didn’t happen very often.  The funny thing about this is that after 90 minutes the treadmill automatically shuts off. I wasn’t aware of this until it happened the first time.  I was on my cool down and was only doing about 2 mph when it shut off.  If I had been going faster it would have sent me through the wall.

Then I started riding my bicycle.  I was doing good but quit loosing weight.  I think it was because I was building muscle.  At least that’s what I keep telling myself.  Anyway, my weight started creeping back up.  Then last year about July, my new boss didn’t want me riding my bike while I was on call.  That’s a different story and I really don’t want to get into it right now.  Anyway, I’m no longer on call and I’m free to ride my bike but during that month when I couldn’t ride, I got out of the habit and quit riding.  And the treadmill was something that I didn’t care to see so I didn’t get on it either.  Needless to say before I got back on my diet this month my weight had gotten back up to over 300 pounds.  This morning my weight was 294.

My plan is to ride when it’s pretty and to do the treadmill when it’s nasty out.  For instance, this evening it was supposed to rain so I got on my treadmill.  It never rained so now I’m wishing that I had gotten on my bike.  When the days get longer I can get up to 20 miles a day and more on the weekends.

The above picture is when a group of us went to Dallas Georgia and rode part of the Silver Comet.  We rode from Dallas to just past Rockmart Georgia and back making it a total 50 miles.  I did this trip last year around October before it got cold.  I was not in shape and didn’t feel as good when I got back to Dallas as when I did  the year before.
