Go Carts and Bumper Cars were the highlight of most of these kids day. We also spent some time at a dinner show in which we all had a blast. Tomorrow continues with a band performance and then the kids gets to do the rides all day, weather permitting of course. Speaking of the weather, They are predicting some severe weather for our trip home tomorrow night. The Tornado word was even used a couple of times. These kids don’t do well in weather like that since that tornado came through and destroyed our city in 2011. Right now all we’re thinking about is having a good time tomorrow.

And I really need this little mini vacation. I’m going with my twin daughters to Gatlinburg, Tenn. on a band trip. They are playing a couple of pieces in Dollywood on Saturday. If you’ve never been to Gatlinburg Tennessee, it’s a beautiful city in the mountains. It’s been several years since I’ve been there and I am so looking forward to spending some time there. However, I’ll be on a buss with other parents and teens so I won’t be able to go where I want to go. But it’s away from here and at work. That’s the main thing.

Our governor is using scare tactics to get the budget he wants or he will close 15 of our state parks. I do not like politicians who use threats to get what they want. Especially threats that will not only affect the lives of those working in those parks but it will have a huge impact on the community in which these parks are located. O really hope they find the funds so that they don’t have to close these parks.

I hate it when I go to bed, go to sleep then wake up and can’t get back to sleep. Oh well, being that I’m up and waiting on the sleep aid to kick in I thought I’d share one of the videos that I made while on my bike ride yesterday. This is the start of my 47 mile trip starting at Judson College in Marion Alabama. The hills are not as bad at the beginning of the ride but gets much steeper as the ride goes along.
Hope you enjoy.

I spent the day today as a couch potato. Yesterday wore me out. My legs and shoulders are sore and it’s tough getting up and down. I’m not complaining mind you, it’s just been a while since I’ve been this sore.
This past week was a slim week on the bicycle and more on the treadmill. I only biked 47 miles and yet I’ve walked about 10 miles on the treadmill. Next week I have a lot of preparation to do to get ready for a trip with my twin daughters so my bike riding will put on hold. Therefore, I’m thinking about putting my bike in the shop for some preventive maintenance and maybe some new tape on my handlebar. The tape used to be white but they have turned to a gray color with all the dirt and grime from changing flat tires with no gloves on. I’m thinking about going to a red color. Maybe red won’t show the dirt as much.

Today started off and stayed cloudy which is pretty good considering it could have been either hot and steamy or worse, raining. As far as I know no one was injured or wrecked in today’s ride which is always good. I on the other hand had a couple of issues. One that I couldn’t help was that I had a flat about 60 yards from the second rest stop. I really came out pretty good on that one. I even had SAG support there if I needed help. I changed the tube and borrowed the SAG’s air pump as so that I wouldn’t have to use one of my CO2 cartridges. The other issue is that I’ve got to learn to take these hills better. I know that the only way I”m going to get any better is to 1) lose weight, 2) climb more hills and 3) do some weight lifting with my legs or something to that effect. I find that I hang pretty good with the big dogs until I get to the steep hills then they pull away then I never see them again.

I will be getting up at 5:15 in the morning to get ready to drive to Marion, Alabama for the Old Howard 100 Bike Ride. I have signed up for the 46 mile loop. One of these days I’ll do the 103 mile loop but not tomorrow. I’m not sure I’m fully prepared for this ride but I know that I’m more prepared than I was last year at this time. The weather does look better than it did last night at this time. They’re still predicting rain but it may hold off until after the ride. My rain jacket is in my backpack ready to go just in case.
The above picture was taken while I was inside a large water pit. The picture is of the inlet valve of a water pump. I thought the water droplets made for an interesting picture.
I did not do any type of workout this evening. I went to a club meeting after I ate supper and didn’t get back until nearly 9 pm. I still had a few things to get together for tomorrow’s ride so I decided to take a rest day today.
Wish me luck tomorrow. I’m just going to take my time and enjoy myself.
